Gil, the Poster Child for Finishing Well!

Finishing well happens when you reach the finish line and then do the celebratory victory lap. In this victory lap, you share all the learning and resources you have accumulated to create a better world.

Most leaders don’t finish well.

I am so proud of Gil. He is the poster child for succession planning. He is proof that the Cultivating Impact Succession Planning method works. The pandemic set him back three years. But he is back on track. Doing an annual review with him, we assessed that Gil has completed:

  • Step one: Recognize Your Impact

  • Step two: Develop Your Business as a Mission

  • Step three: Build Your Team to Maximize Impact

Gil’s entire C-suite owns stock in the company. No small feat.

He is completing Step four: Exchange the Baton and is already preparing to Multiply the Impact (step five).

Gil has a seven-year plan for passing the baton. He will turn over the final daily functions and CEO role over the next two years. Spending the remaining five years cheerleading, mentoring, coaching, and pursuing the business’s purpose, caring for the people, will be his job.

Gil works four days a week now. Next year he will go to three days per week. At age 65 he will have passed on all leadership to his three chiefs.

Gil’s victory lap is in sight. He is accomplishing something so very few entrepreneurs do: a life of significance.

Gill lives every day filled with the feelings of significance. He is making a difference. Even after he is gone, his values will live on in the purpose of the business.

I want your story to be like Gil’s!

Finishing well involves reaching the finish line of your race and then doing the celebratory victory lap. In this victory lap, you share all the learning and resources you have accumulated to create a better world.
