Looking back, it has happened many times.
Business was excellent. Another money-making deal went well. We were cruising. If we just continued doing today what we did yesterday, we would keep making money. Everything looked good. All of our key performance indicators were pointing in the right direction.
But, something significant in my life was wrong, and its symptoms began to show.
Hitting the snooze button was not normal for me. Getting up before my alarm had always been the norm. But now, the usual passion for getting up and going to work was gone.
I was satisfied. And I was stuck. Getting where I was required stretching, but somewhere along the way, another set of values became the center of my life. It was beginning to be evident; this new set of values had drained me of my passion.
Lesson to learn:
EMBRACING THE WRONG VALUES WILL DRAIN YOU OF YOUR PASSION.
You wake up, on a day, and you realize, I should have seen this coming.
Embracing success had stifled personal growth in my life. Honestly, being satisfied set me up to live every day in wallowing-in-the-mud-selfishness. A little bit of success had allowed me to build a life that totally revolved around myself. It's called being self-absorbed.
Something was wrong. What was it?
Clarity came through a course, "Theology of Business." It doesn't sound life-shattering, but it was. What did I learn that was life-shattering? That life had changed, but I hadn't adapted well.
Lesson to learn:
WHEN LIFE CHANGES AND YOU DON'T ADAPT WELL, YOU GET STUCK!
Pursuing a wrong vision of success caused me to embrace a set of values that produced death in the DNA of my soul. In effect, the life I was living through my work no longer aligned with what I professed to believe.
You see, I professed that the transforming power of Jesus Christ was at the center of my life. The truth was, some other values had become the center of my world.
I claimed that nothing was more important to me than relationship, but in effect, making dollars took a much higher priority.
Accumulating 'stuff' was a priority
Unresolved conflict began to stack up
Living without margin became a daily routine
Each day was like the one before
Being a change agent was a thing of the past
What happened? I had to find out. My business partner was excelling, the company was thriving and debt-free, so I gave my one-year notice, and in six months, I was gone!!
It helped to write my obituary! Nothing morbid, just a paragraph. Writing it helped me imagine the totality of my life here on earth and was instrumental to reverse engineer a ten, five, and one-year plan.
Having a very clear vision for my life story at passing, I began to live to make it a possibility! Dreaming about my legacy became my daily habit. The more I focused on my new vision, the more I realized how wrong my previous priorities had been.
Writing out my ten, five, then my one-year plan brought my values in focus: Legacy!
Are you stuck? Like I was challenged, I am challenging you today. What do you want your life's message to proclaim?
You don't have to be stuck! Get started today, making your life a masterpiece! Go ahead, make it masterful!
If you get started, YOUR LEGACY BEGINS TODAY! THAT IS EXCITING TO PONDER!
Do you wonder if you are stuck like I was? To help you determine the areas you are stuck in, I have created a free download; I call it my "Energy Audit." It helps folks to assess where they might be stuck and need to make a change.
My "Energy Audit" helps you identify where you thrive, what drains you, and how some of these things might be quietly sucking the life out of you!
